The new building, designed by star architect Prof. Hans Kohlhoff and constructed from white granite and polished stainless steel, rises 18 stories high. The buildings on Potsdamer Platz have no air conditioning; instead, the heat-storing properties of reinforced concrete and cooling ceilings with circulating cold water are used for cooling. This type of facade cooling saves 50 percent of energy and reduces CO2 emissions by 70 percent.
